The ‘cricket diplomacy’ surrounding the high-profile semifinal between the nuclear-armed neighbours led to a virtual lockdown in the tiny north Indian town of Mohali and Dhoni revealed the fans were not the only ones who suffered.
“The meal was not served at the hotel. They said it would take more than an hour. When we turned up at the stadium, there was nothing actually,” Dhoni told reporters on the eve of Saturday’s final against Sri Lanka.
“So we had an early warm-up session and said ‘okay, we will have the meal after the session’.
“What can you do about it? You may scream, you may shout but you won’t get food.”
Dhoni is now hungry for success in Saturday’s final, where India will take on Sri Lanka, and he was confident there will be no food issues in the lead up to the big match.
“The situation was different there.,” said Dhoni, whose friends in Mumbai include a couple of Bollywood actors.
“Also I have quite a few friends who will be ready to bring food in half hour’s time. I don’t think it would be a big concern here,” he quipped.
